Department of the Air Force SBIR/STTR 22.1/A Opportunities Now in Pre-Release

If you’re looking for your opportunity to work with the Air Force and to build up the US small business economy, apply for one of our 2022 solicitations. 

Specific Topic Solicitation: The Department of the Air Force will offer several specific topics, defined and outlined as Air Force needs for the AFRL and PEO Tech Directorates. Award Amounts for Specific Topics Range from $50k- $1.5M. Review Air Force DoD 22.1/A Solicitation Details on the DoD SBIR/STTR Home Page. Small Businesses can find 22.1/A  Specific Topic and Open solicitations on the DSIP portal: Once there, filter for the Air Force Topics.


Open Topic Solicitation: The Department of the Air Force is only offering a Direct to Phase II (D2P2) option for the Open Topic during the 22.1/A solicitation cycle. Open Topic D2P2 awards are $1.25M. Search for topic number AF221-DCSO1.

22.1/A Solicitation Cycle Timeline

During the pre-release period (Dec. 1st, 2021 - Jan. 11th, 2022) small businesses are permitted to contact the appropriate Air Force personnel to ask technical questions about the topic of interest. 

Once the solicitation officially opens (Jan. 12th, 2022 - Feb. 10, 2022) direct communication between small business and the Air Force topic authors/subject matter experts is no longer permitted. This is the period where small businesses can submit their proposal to the solicitation(s) of interest. 

The 22.1/A topics are now in pre-release. All proposals must be submitted through the Defense SBIR/STTR Innovation Portal (DSIP). Check out the available topics here:
